COVID-19 Update:

The Oaks, A Merrill Gardens Community

Update May 21:

To All Residents, Family Members and Team Members at The Oaks,

We want to let you know that we have now received most of the results from last week’s COVID-19 testing.  We tested 81 community team members and memory care residents.  So far, all the residents tested negative and one part-time team member tested positive. The team member will remain away from the community until the quarantine period has passed. It is important to note that team member is the only individual at the community to test positive for the virus. We are still waiting on the results from two team member tests and we expect those back soon.

As an added precaution, this week we will be testing all the other residents in the community.  We will work with each person individually on scheduling the tests once our plan is in place.  The test can be performed quickly and is relatively painless.  We believe that this testing will provide the information needed to make the appropriate operational choices.

We are grateful for your ongoing cooperation as we do all we can to limit the spread of the virus. As a reminder, our Enhanced Resident Protection Protocol remains in place, which means no visitors are welcome at the community at this time.  We also ask that you continue to take your meals in your apartment.

Again, we thank you for your support and encourage you to please reach out to our community team if you have any specific questions.

Update May 13:

We have now arranged for all memory care residents and all community team members to be tested for COVID-19.   The testing will take place at the community and will be conducted by our team in conjunction with Dr. Jordi Livi, a local physician who takes care of most of our memory care residents.  The test takes just a few minutes to perform and is relatively painless.  We believe that knowledge is power and testing everyone at the community will give us the information we need to make the appropriate operational choices.

We truly appreciate your support and cooperation as we work together to limit the spread of the virus.  Thank you for continuing to follow our Enhanced Resident Protection Protocol and we will continue to provide updates as we have new information.

Update May 8:

To All Residents, Family Members and Team Members at The Oaks,

We want to let you know that a team member who works at the community has tested positive for COVID-19.  This individual is not experiencing any symptoms of the virus and was tested after coming in contact with someone away from our community who had tested positive.  The team member is self-isolating away from the community and will not return to work until they are symptom free and the full quarantine period has passed.  We are also in touch with anyone who might have encountered this individual.  It is important to note that no other team members and no residents are currently reporting symptoms of the virus.

As you know, we have been operating under our Enhanced Resident Protection Protocol since March 18, including increased cleaning and sanitation, and that will continue.  As a reminder, here is what that entails:

Enhanced Resident Protection Protocol

Visitors:

  • Visitors are not allowed at the community at this time.

Dining:

  • The dining room remains closed, and residents are receiving all meals via delivery to apartments.

Residents Remain in Apartments:

  • During this time, residents will need to remain in their apartments.

It is also important that resident or team member alert us immediately if they are feeling ill.  We will also continue daily temperature checks.

I want to encourage you to please reach out to me if you have any specific questions.  We will also continue to provide updates with any new information.  I thank you in advance for your support and encouragement.

Best regards,

Tami Ojwang, General Manager
